Mean, Mode, Median

The mean is the average of a group of numbers. To find the mean, you add all quantities together and divide by the number of quantities

Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the mean?

Step 1: 91+84+56+90+70+65+90+92+30= 668

Step 2: 668/9= 74.2

The mode is the most frequent value in a set of data.

Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the mode?

Amy's mode would be 90. (the number seen the most)

The median is another word for average. Median represents the middle number(s) when ordered.

Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the median?

Step 1: Place numbers in order. 30 56 65 70 84 90 90 91 92

Step 2: Check set to see what number(s) is in the middle. 84
