FPS: Steps 4-5-6 Review

Start with the question "Which solution will..." ?

Should have only ONE idea in a DESIRED direction

Must have a superlative

1st Question: Use the KEY VERB PHRASE in your Step 2 to base your cr

ADVANCED = 3 points (Directly pertains to KVP or P in Step 2; ir uses specific concepts from Future Scene)

MODIFIED = 2 points (has some details from Future Scene added, but is primarily Generic)

GENERIC = 1 point (could be applied to other Future Scenes)

DUPLICATE = 0 points

NOT RELEVANT = 0 points (does not relate to evaluating solutions for this Future Scene)

List your 8 best solutions

Rank them 8 - 1 (8 being the highest) Hint: Start with 8, then 1; then 7, then 2, etc. Then fill in the middle.)

Add up each row mentally

Have one person use the calculator to check

If there is a tie, you must break it

Add a sixth criteria question to evaluate the two tied ideas; OR

Decide which criteria question is most important and weight it (double those points only so they are 2-16) and add totals again; OR

Recheck your rankings and make a change - just be careful that you still have 1-8 in each column and your totals are correct (add up to 180)

2nd Question: Use your PURPOSE in Step 2 to write an advanced criterion

Start with your basic solution idea (first paragraph)

Include details on how the plan will operate

Include timelines and tasks for implementing the plan

Solve a potential problem or obstacle

Clearly state HOW the plan will solve your UP and impact the Future Scene

It MUST be about your BEST solution (the one that got the most points on your grid)

Address your criteria questions (Step 4) in your Step 6

Be sure to address your KVP and Purpose - does your plan clearly meet your goals?

Does it have a solid impact on the Future Scene?

Use the 5 W's (Who-What-Where-When-Why and How) to fully explain your plan
