Non-Proportional Relationships

A non-proportional relationship on a graph would be a straight line, passing through the y-axis at a point other than the origin.

It's important for us to identify the type of slope we have (positive or negative).

Para nosotros es importante identificar el tipo de pendiente que tenemos (positiva o negativa).

We can find slope on a graph by using rise/run. Count the number of spaces you move on the y-axis and divide this by the number of spaces you move on the x-axis.

Podemos encontrar la pendiente en una gráfica usando subida / corrida. Cuenta el número de espacios que mueves en el eje y y divídelo por el número de espacios que mueves en el eje x.

We can also use the slope formula if we know the coordinates of 2 points.

If you know the slope and a coordinate, you can find the y-intercept by using substitution in the formula y=mx+b.

Let's use the points (2,11) and (4,17) to find the slope.

Now that we know the slope, we can use any coordinate from the table and use substitution to find the y-intercept (b)
