Definition: join phrases or sentences together

Comma Rules

_{When joining simple, complete sentences, place a comma before the conjunction}

_{Sentence, Conjunction Sentence}

_{Rules #1: Put a comma before the FANBOYS when they connect two independent clauses}

_{Rules #2: If the first sentence has 5 or fewer words you may choose to omit the comma}

Examples

Sam drank some water, for he was thirsty.
I take milk and sugar in my tea.
Sara doesn’t like apples, nor does she like pears.
All the children wanted to eat pizza, but no one wanted to buy it.
We could go to the zoo, or we could go to the theme park.
The weather was cold and wet, yet we enjoyed it very much
He is sick, so he is not going to school.
