Cold water sinks and transports oxygen to the deep ocean.

Near shore winds pushes warmer water away and pulls cold nutrient rich water to the surface.

Photosynthesis occurs here so there are phytoplankton and food to eat and oxygen is plentiful

Because it has many different organisms that do not eat each other.
