Part 1: Exposition

Exposition, introduces the reader to:

• Characters: the individuals in the story

• Setting: the time and place where the story occurs.

• Main Conflict: the main problem in the story

Iron Man, Exposition

• Characters: Tony Stark/Pepper Pots/ Obadiah Stane/ Terrorists

• Setting: California/ The Middle East

• Main Conflict: Weapons being sold illegally to terrorists

• (Yes Tony is kidnapped and all BUT it's the weapons that drives the movie, otherwise the movie would have ended when he blew up the kidnappers in the Mark I suit.)

Part 2: Rising Action

Rising Action:

• The problems or complications that arise because of the conflict in the Exposition.

• This is where we see Cause & Effect (Cause is the reason something happens. Effect is the result of the action.)

Iron Man, Rising Actions

Tony returns to his house and begins debating making weapons anymore. He builds and tests various Iron Man suits. He finds out that Obediah is the villain.

Part 3: Climax

Climax:

• The most exciting part

• High School Definition- the TURNING point (when the plot turns so the main conflict can be resolved)

The fight with Iron Monger (Obadiah) is exciting and turns the story to its resolution.

Part 4: Falling Actions

Falling Actions

• The small conflicts start to get fixed.

• Note: Falling Actions are not ALWAYS present in a story or movie.

• Falling Actions can occur after the Resolution

Iron Man, Falling Actions

• The SHIELD guy (Agent Coulson) FINALLY gets to talk to Tony

• Tony's identity crisis is solved when he tells everyone he is Iron Man

Part 5: Resolution

Resolution:

• The MAIN conflict in the story come to a close.

• Theme (the lesson the story is teaching us) becomes clear

Iron Man, Resolution

After Tony defeats Obadiah, as the Iron Monger, the threat for selling illegal weapons comes to a close. This solves our MAIN conflict.
