Infinitives

Infinitives are verbs that have no subject.

They are also know as "unconjugated" verbs.

Conjugating is the process of changing a verb to match it's subject.

Ex: to talk (infinitive) I talk (conjugated verb because we have a subject)

Infinitives in Spanish

In English, we know a verb is an infinitive because it has "to" in front of it.

In Spanish, we can tell by the ending. There are 3 types of infinitives in Spanish:

AR (Hablar)

ER (Correr)

IR (Escribir)

Talking about likes

When we talk about what we like to do, we used the verb "Gustar"

Gustar means "to like or to be pleasing to"

I like to... = (A mí) me gusta

A mí means "to me"

It can be dropped so you can simply say "Me gusta"

Me gusta + Infinitive

• To describe what you like to do, you simply take "Me gusta" and follow it with the infinitive

• Ex: I like to swim = Me gusta nadar

Using Mucho to say "A lot"

When you really like to do something, you use "Mucho" to say "a lot"

Placement in sentence: Mucho must always be placed right after "gusta"

Ex: I like to skate a lot --> Me gusta mucho patinar

​Ex: I don't like to read. --> No me gusta leer.

​Nada

​To say you don't like something "at all"

​No me gusta + nada + infinitive

​Ex: I don't like to skate at all. --> No me gusta nada patinar.
