Coordinating Conjunctions

for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

This sentence is also known as an independent clause.

Example: The students go to class every day.

A compound sentence has two independent clauses that are connected with a coordinating conjunction (fanboys).

Example: The students go to school everyday, but they do not always do their homework.

for = because

I did my homework, for I wanted an A in class.

and = plus or in addition

The students are learning, and they are happy online.

nor - not one or the other

I do not like tests, nor do I like homework.

or = one or another

We can eat tacos, or we can eat pizza.

We can eat tacos or pizza.

yet = but or even though

I am on a diet, yet I ate two doughnuts and four tacos.

so = therefore or because of that....

I am a teacher, so I know how to talk to students.

I am a student, so I know how to read.
