Turn the question into a statement to introduce your paragraph

Ex: "How can students improve their skills?" Students can improve their skills by....

If there are multiple parts to the question, make sure you are answering all of them. Your "answer" can be several sentences.

Your "answer" should be in your own words (not directly taken from the text).

Support your answer using examples from the text.

You should have a phrase to lead into your quote. Ex: "The text states,", "In the text it says,", or "The author states,"

The entire example (if taken word-for-word from the text) should have quotation marks around it.

Ex: "The text states that students who study for at least one hour each day performed better on assessments than students who studied less than one hour per day."

It also must have a citation, including the author and paragraph number. Ex: (Collins 2).

After including your example/quote, you need to explain how that quote supports your answer.

Use phrases like "This example shows," or "This quotation proves that".

Ex: "This shows that students can improve their test scores (and, therefore, skills) by studying more."

Your "explain" can be more than one sentence, if needed.

Include a sentence at the end of your paragraph to wrap up the topic.

It can be similar to your first sentence, but not identical.

It can start of with, "In conclusion" or "To sum up".

Ex: "In conclusion, students who are dedicated to improving their skills can do so."
