What is a Writing Prompt?

A set of directions given to writers
A prompt gives you the purpose, topic and question (instructions) on what you’re supposed to write about in your essay.

Topic, Purpose, Question (Instruction)

Topic: What am I writing about? Usually found in the first sentence of the writing prompt.
Purpose- Why am I writing this? Ask yourself what type of essay will you begin to write (an informative or opinion)
Question- What will I write about to explain the topic (informative) or to express myself (Opinion)?
