What is the Declaration of Independence?

• It was a list of grievances the colonists had for the king.

• Grievances are complaints especially concerning unfair treatment.

Why was the Declaration of Independence written? 

• It was written to inform the king their reasons for rebelling against his rule. 

• It was written to encourage others to rebel against the king. 

• To be free from British rule.  

Pledge of Allegiance 

What does the Pledge of Allegiance mean?

• I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United states of America.

• Pledging Allegiance means to pledge loyalty. You are pledging your loyalty to the United States of America. 

What does the Pledge of Allegiance mean? 

• With Liberty and Justice for all.

• Liberty meaning freedom.

• Justice meaning laws and rules. 

• Freedom and laws for everyone.

What does the Pledge of Allegiance mean? 

• And to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible. 

• This means we are one nation that is indivisible.

• Indivisible means not divided. 

• The states are united. One union.
