Function or job: thing or person

Example: Pencil, cat, book

Sentence: This is my cat.

Function or job: action or state

Sentence: I like people.

Sentence: My cat eats quickly.

Function or job: Describes a noun

Example: small, big, good, well, blue

Example: I, you, he, she, it, we, they

Sentence: He is very clever.

Function or job: Links a noun to another word.

Example: at, in, of, on, after, under
