Why is this a “Developing” example? 

Although the claim is correct, the evidence does not support the claim.

Why is this a “Progressing” example? 

Although the claim is correct and the evidence supports the claim, the evidence does not include specific data to support the claim.

Why is this a “Proficient” example? 

The claim answers the question and includes specific data as evidence to support the claim.  Some of the data is not needed to support the claim.

Why is this an “Advanced” example? 

The claim answers the question and includes only relevant, specific data as evidence to support the claim.  The student also attempted to give a reasoning statement to connect the claim to the evidence using a scientific concept.
