Box/Dot Plots

A dot plot is a statistical chart that consists of data points plotted on a simple scale, often used to show frequency of data.

To find the median, arrange the data points in order and identify the middle value. If there is an even number of data points, the median is the average of the two middle values.

The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a data set.

The range is the difference between the highest and lowest values in a data set.

A quartile is a type of quantile that divides a data set into four equal parts.

The first quartile (Q1) is the median of the lower half of the data set, representing the 25th percentile.

The third quartile (Q3) is the median of the upper half of the data set, representing the 75th percentile.

The interquartile range (IQR) is the difference between the third quartile (Q3) and the first quartile (Q1), measuring the spread of the middle 50% of the data.

Data is symmetrical if the left and right sides of the distribution are mirror images of each other.

If two data sets have the same median, it means that the central value of both data sets is equal, but it does not indicate that the data sets are identical.
