Add and Subtract Integer Word Problems

An integer is a whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero.

The opposite of an integer is the number that is the same distance from zero on the number line but in the opposite direction.

The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on the number line, regardless of direction. It is always a non-negative number.

A zero pair consists of one negative and one positive integer that sum to zero.

When adding two integers with the same sign, add their absolute values and keep the sign.

When adding two integers with different signs, subtract their absolute values and take the sign of the integer with the larger absolute value.
