Understanding Religion

Religion involves a relationship not only between man and man but also between man and a higher power, as stated by Mac Iver and Page.

These beliefs give significance to sacred objects, which would otherwise be considered ordinary without the associated belief.

Superstition may lack a direct religious connection and can have socio-cultural implications. It often leads to unnecessary fear, negative feelings, and loss of confidence. Superstitions may belong to cultural traditions but are not always related to religion or its philosophy.

Some superstitions are limited to a single country, region, village, family, or social/vocational group.

Prohibitive taboos limit interaction with individuals like chiefs, priests, magicians, or menstruating women to prevent harm to others. Protective and prohibitive taboos share similarities.

Science is concerned with knowledge that is organized systematically. It is guided by reason and observation and is open to all for the common good.

Science is empirical.

Scientific investigators agree on the human-centric roots of religion.

Animism is the belief in the existence of a supra-physical being within every living body, surviving even after physical death.

For example, a dream of a hunting adventure was interpreted as evidence of a supernatural presence.
