Understanding Percents

A percent is a way to express a number as a fraction of 100. It is denoted by the symbol '%'.

To convert a percent to a fraction, divide the percent by 100 and simplify if possible.

75% = 75/100 = 3/4.

To convert a decimal to a percent, multiply the decimal by 100 and add the '%' symbol.

0.528 = 0.528 x 100 = 52.8%.

To find the percent of a shaded area, divide the shaded part by the total area and multiply by 100.

(40/100) x 100 = 40%.

56% = 56/100 = 0.56.

100% means the whole or total amount.

To convert a fraction to a percent, divide the numerator by the denominator, then multiply by 100.
