Capitalization Flashcard

Capitalization is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase and the remaining letters in lowercase. It is used for proper nouns, the beginning of sentences, and certain titles.

Proper nouns, which name specific people, places, or organizations, should always be capitalized. For example, 'Patrick Mahomes', 'NBA', and 'LeBron James'.

The first word of a sentence should always be capitalized, regardless of the word itself.

In titles, capitalize the first and last words, as well as all major words in between. Minor words like 'and', 'or', and 'the' are not capitalized unless they are the first or last word.

Acronyms should be written in all capital letters. For example, 'NBA' for National Basketball Association.

Common nouns should not be capitalized unless they begin a sentence. For example, 'dog' is not capitalized, but 'Dog' at the start of a sentence is.

'Great' is a common adjective and should not be capitalized unless it starts a sentence or is part of a title.

All capital letters are often used for emphasis or in titles, but should be avoided in regular text as it can be perceived as shouting.

'GOAT' stands for 'Greatest of All Time' and is an acronym that should be capitalized.
