Run-on, Fragment or Complete?

A run-on sentence occurs when two or more independent clauses are joined without proper punctuation or conjunction.

"I love to read I go to the library every week."

A fragment is a group of words that does not express a complete thought and is not a complete sentence.

"Because I was tired."

A complete sentence has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought.

"The cat sat on the mat."

You can fix a run-on sentence by adding a period, a semicolon, or a conjunction.

A semicolon (;) or a comma followed by a conjunction (e.g., and, but, or).

A coordinating conjunction connects words, phrases, or independent clauses. Examples include: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.

A comma is used to indicate a pause between parts of a sentence or to separate items in a list.
