One Step Inequalities

An inequality is a mathematical statement that compares two expressions using symbols such as <, >, ≤, or ≥.

'≥' means 'greater than or equal to'.

'≤' means 'less than or equal to'.

Divide both sides by -16 and reverse the inequality sign: p ≥ -2.

m ≥ -3.

Use a number line; use a closed dot for '≥' or '≤' and an open dot for '>' or '<'.

y < -4.

Subtract 5 from both sides: y ≥ -3.

When you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by a negative number, you must reverse the inequality sign.

A solution set is the set of all values that satisfy the inequality.
