Terminating and Repeating Decimals

A terminating decimal is a decimal number that has a finite number of digits after the decimal point. For example, 0.75 and 2.5 are terminating decimals.

A repeating decimal is a decimal number that has a digit or a group of digits that repeat infinitely. For example, 0.333... (or 0.3̅) and 0.666... (or 0.6̅) are repeating decimals.

A fraction will result in a terminating decimal if its denominator (in simplest form) has only the prime factors 2 and/or 5.
