3rd Grade Multiplication & Division

Multiplication is a way to add the same number several times. For example, 3 x 4 means adding 3 four times: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12.

Division is splitting a number into equal parts. For example, 12 ÷ 4 means splitting 12 into 4 equal groups, which gives 3.

Repeated addition is adding the same number multiple times. For example, 5 + 5 + 5 is the same as 3 x 5.

You can show it as 2 x 4, which means 2 added together 4 times.

The multiplication fact is 6 x 4, which means 6 added together 4 times.

The multiplication symbol (x) means to combine equal groups. For example, 4 x 3 means 4 groups of 3.

The division fact is that 24 divided by 4 equals 6, meaning there are 6 groups of 4 in 24.

Multiply the number of groups by the number of items in each group. For example, 2 groups of 6 items each is 2 x 6 = 12.

An array is a way to organize objects in rows and columns to show multiplication. For example, 3 rows of 4 objects each shows 3 x 4.

A factor is a number that can be multiplied by another number to get a product. For example, in 3 x 4, both 3 and 4 are factors.
