Spelling Prefixes

A prefix is a group of letters added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning.

The prefix 'mis-' means wrong or badly. For example, 'mislead' means to lead someone in the wrong direction.

The prefix 'dis-' means not or opposite of. For example, 'distrust' means to not trust.

The prefix 'un-' means not or the opposite of. For example, 'unable' means not able.

The prefix 'non-' means not or without. For example, 'nonsense' means something that does not make sense.

An example is 'misplace', which means to place something in the wrong location.
