Verb Tenses

A verb tense shows the time of an action or state of being. It tells us if something happened in the past, is happening now, or will happen in the future.

Present tense describes actions that are happening right now. Example: 'Lyla and Malena are driving to the movie.'

Past tense describes actions that have already happened. Example: 'Evan came over and made a huge mess in my room.'

Future tense describes actions that will happen later. Example: 'Next year Alejandro will be in 4th grade.'

Present tense verbs often use the base form of the verb. For example, 'run' in 'I run every day.'

Past tense verbs often add -ed to the base form of regular verbs. For example, 'walk' becomes 'walked.'
