A percent is a ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. It represents a part of a whole.

To convert a decimal to a percent, multiply the decimal by 100 and add a percent sign. For example, 0.4 x 100 = 40%.

To calculate a percentage increase, subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, and multiply by 100.

Calculate 15% of 14 ounces (0.15 x 14 = 2.1 ounces) and add it to the original amount (14 + 2.1 = 16.1 ounces).

To find what number a percentage is of, divide the part by the percent (in decimal form). For example, if 64 is 40% of a number, divide 64 by 0.4 to find the number.
