The subject is the noun or pronoun that tells who or what the sentence is about.

An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that renames or explains another noun next to it, usually set off by commas.

A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb.

An indirect object is a noun or pronoun that tells to whom or for whom the action of the verb is done.

The object of a preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition and completes its meaning.

A predicate noun is a noun that follows a linking verb and renames the subject.

Common nouns are general names for a person, place, thing, or idea and are not capitalized.

Proper nouns are specific names of people, places, or organizations and are always capitalized.

Capitalize the first and last words, as well as all major words in titles of published pieces.

Appositives are usually surrounded by commas to separate them from the rest of the sentence.
