Week 16 - Sentence Type and Purpose

An interrogative sentence is a type of sentence that asks a question and typically begins with words like who, what, where, when, why, or how.

Did the dog bark loudly?

A simple sentence contains a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. For example, 'Megan runs.'

Megan loves ice cream, and she eats it every day.

A compound sentence consists of two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction. For example, 'Megan loves ice cream, and Tyler loves cake.'

The purpose of a declarative sentence is to make a statement or express an opinion.

Interrogative.

An exclamatory sentence expresses strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark. For example, 'What a beautiful day!'

What a fun time Megan and Tyler had at the park!

The purpose of an imperative sentence is to give a command or make a request.
