Verb Moods

The imperative mood is used to give commands, make requests, or offer invitations. Example: 'Please close the door.'

The indicative mood is used to make factual statements or ask questions. Example: 'The sky is blue.'

The subjunctive mood expresses wishes, hypotheticals, or conditions contrary to fact. Example: 'If I were a bird, I would fly.'

The conditional mood expresses actions that depend on a condition. Example: 'If it rains, we will stay inside.'

The interrogative mood is used to ask questions. Example: 'Are you coming to the party?'

To identify the mood, look at the verb's function: is it stating a fact (indicative), giving a command (imperative), expressing a wish (subjunctive), or asking a question (interrogative)?

'Please pass the salt.'

'She enjoys reading books.'

'I wish that he were here.'

'If I study hard, I will pass the test.'
