Rigid Transformations

A rigid transformation is a transformation that preserves the shape and size of a figure. Examples include translations, rotations, and reflections.

Translation is a type of rigid transformation that moves every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.

(0, 0) - The new coordinates are calculated as (4-4, 5-5).

Reflecting a figure across the x-axis means that each point of the figure is mirrored over the x-axis, changing the sign of the y-coordinate.

(5, -4) - The coordinates are transformed by switching and changing the sign of the new y-coordinate.

The line of reflection is the y-axis itself, where each point (x, y) becomes (-x, y).

The direction of a translation is determined by the vector that indicates how far and in which direction each point of the figure moves.

The new coordinates become (-y, x).

The new coordinates will be (x+5, y-8).

A rotation turns a figure around a point, while a reflection flips a figure over a line.
