Percents of Numbers

A percent is a ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. It represents a part of a whole.

To calculate a percentage of a number, multiply the number by the percentage (in decimal form). For example, to find 20% of 50, calculate 50 * 0.20 = 10.

The formula is: Whole = Part / (Percentage / 100). For example, if 34% of a number is 51, the whole number is 51 / 0.34 = 150.

To convert a fraction to a percentage, divide the numerator by the denominator and then multiply by 100. For example, 1/4 = (1 ÷ 4) * 100 = 25%.

Percentages are a specific type of fraction where the denominator is always 100. For example, 25% is equivalent to 25/100.

To find what percent one number (part) is of another number (whole), use the formula: (Part / Whole) * 100. For example, to find what percent 3 is of 17, calculate (3 / 17) * 100 = 17.65%.

Percentage increase = ((New Value - Original Value) / Original Value) * 100. Percentage decrease = ((Original Value - New Value) / Original Value) * 100.

To round a percentage to the nearest whole number, look at the first decimal place. If it is 5 or higher, round up; if it is 4 or lower, round down.

The number 100 is significant in percentages because it represents the whole. Percentages are always a part of 100.

To express a percentage as a decimal, divide the percentage by 100. For example, 25% as a decimal is 0.25.
